Class News: Year Summary
[divider]
It has been such a busy year in Third Class. Here are some of the activities we did. [divider]

Weaving
This year we learned how to weave. It took a lot of patience to learn in the beginning. When you weave, you feel busy and relaxed. Some wool is thick and some is thin. The thick wool is easier to weave with because it doesn’t pull so tight. Some people used a straw as a needle. When you finish, you have to cut it off the card. Then you can give it away as a gift or use it as a book mark. By Ciara and Orlaith

Reduce-Re-use Re-cycle!
This year we collected milk carton caps to make pieces for Draughts. We now have 8 sets of Draughts to play on wet days.

Projects
Polar Regions
We learned about animals in the Polar Regions. They are very clever at surviving the very cold weather down to -40. Penguins huddle in a ‘turtle’ and take turns to be in the middle. Arctic hares change colour to hide. Polar bears are very big and heavy and they can move very fast in the sea and can smell things far away.
Transport Through the Ages :
Some cars and trains were invented along time ago with old fashioned materials. They moved very slowly and broke down a lot. Modern materials make cars and bikes and boats and planes cool to look at and very fast to get to other places and if they break down they can get parts repaired .

Dragonfly Report Writing
We learned about the Dragonfly. The Dragonfly has to hover before it lands like a helicopter. It is very fast and skilful. If you played Dodgeball with 11 of them, you wouldn’t be able to hit one ! By Patrick Mulkern

ICT Skills
Internet: We learned how to use the Internet to research our projects. We learned to copy and paste pictures from Google images into a Word document and to save our work into the class folder on the school server. Then we don’t have to go back to the same computer we used the last day.
Maths: We used the computers to practise our tables and play Maths games. It was so much fun.[divider_top]
