There was fantastic excitement in the school today as we had a visit from the Irish Coast Guards. We were very privileged to have them visit the school in one of their search and rescue helicopters.

The helicopter circled the school for a number of minutes before landing in the middle of the pitch. Once it had landed, all the pupils were allowed onto the pitch to get a close up look. The crew gave a detailed explanation of the equipment on board and of the operations and rescues they carry out. The children enjoyed listening to the pilots and hearing about their rescues. They also spoke to the children about the importance of water safety and  being careful at the seaside.

Thanks to Philip Wrenn and the crew of the Irish Coastguard Service for visiting our school. It was amazing to see the helicopter up close.

As the photos show, it was a very exciting morning for everyone.

I’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to Tia Hoen Galvin for arranging this visit for us- it was a day to remember!
